French black & white transferware bowls sourced at the Brussels antique market. Central medallion of a barefooted young Roma woman with tambourine, treasure box, and Mt. Vesuvius. Artist's intiials "JBM" indicate Jean-Baptiste Mayer. Rim features 3 incongruous scenes - an equestrian gentleman & hounds; a French coq, hen, and chicks; a beggar with crutches. Gien underglaze mark dates to 1834-1844. Good antique condition; faint hairline & discoloration, overpainted edge chip (as shown)
