MINE’s Guide to Styling a Modern Bedroom

MINE Furniture Modern Bedroom
Our modern lives are full of stress, phone alerts, and enough blue light to keep you awake for hours after your bedtime. Maybe that’s why modern bedrooms are so coveted — a soothing haven of clean lines, neutral colors, and minimalist design. To curate a serene sanctuary for rest, we asked the experts at MINE for the best modern bedroom furniture and decor that are worthy of an inspirational model home. Keep reading for MINE’s interior design tips:
01
Anchor the Room
The bed is by far the largest element in your bedroom, so choosing the right aesthetic for your bed frame and headboard is key to setting the tone for the whole space. MINE recommends a clean silhouette, as simple as can be, for a minimalist and modern vibe. Look for light-colored wood or upholstery for extra coziness to keep things looking airy and serene. If you’re looking for a bit of flair to cut through all the soothing elements of the room, consider a dramatically tall headboard.

02
Tuck Everything Out of Sight
A tidy and uncluttered space is key to make any room look big, spacious, and soothing. For your place of rest and relaxation, put your mind at ease by incorporating a lot of closed storage (aka drawers, doors, and baskets that conceal your items) that can make it easy to keep your bedroom organized. Because your bed is a light tone, you can add some visual contrast to the room with a darker dresser or nightstands. Or, for a more coastal modern look, add woven storage baskets and earthy accents made of rattan, wicker, or jute.
03
Set a Warm & Cozy Ambiance
Ever heard of layered lighting? Used commonly in luxury bars and cafes, it’s all about adding smaller sources of ambient lights that “layer” together to create a warm and moody setup. So, instead of one super-bright overhead light, layer a soft chandelier with bedside sconces or table lamps that work together to subtly illuminate different areas of your bedroom. If you want to decorate like a pro, add visual interest with modern lamps in eye-catching shapes and materials, from orb-like sconces to sculptural metal chandeliers.
04
Layer on Organic Textures
The biggest drawback of modern bedrooms is that sometimes they can look cold and sterile. To combat this, MINE often adds sumptuous and slouchy high-quality bedding that softens the edges of the angular modern furniture. For a modern farmhouse aesthetic, a very popular look, you can turn to natural fabrics like cotton, linen, and wool to really imbue the space with a touch of rustic charm. Not only will nature-inspired bedding dial up your comfort, but it also adds visual depth with subtly different textures and hues.
05
Dial Down Ambient Noise
More layers mean more comfort, coziness, and dampening of distracting little noises from creaky floorboards. That’s why so many modern bedrooms have a rug — a large one under the bed or smaller areas rugs placed throughout the room — that offers a softer place to land even before you reach your bed. Cocoon your room in softness with a chic modern rug, preferably a plain high-pile option or a geometric pattern that’s not too loud or distracting. It’s the perfect piece of decor to make your bedroom feel like a hug.
06
Add a Seasonal Flair
Modern bedrooms are beloved for their muted and minimalist style, but every room deserves a bit of personality. That’s where throw pillows come in. These decorative accents are small enough to make a statement without overwhelming your soothing ambiance. They’re also easy to switch out whenever you want to switch up your style or color palette for the season. There’s no one way to decorate with pillows, so experiment with layering different sizes, colors, textures, and patterns to find the arrangement that speaks to you.
